Winpwn error fix

If you use the new Winpwn and install Cydia plus any other app...Cydia+Installer, Cydia+Bootneuter etc, it WILL crash unless you increase the root partition size to at least 510mb.

This is due to another 20mn of "stuff" in the new firmware.

Thanks PB!

Xpwn:: Now with added Installer 4 Beta!

Just added Installer 4 to Xpwn!

See the guide for more details...

Xpwn for 2.0.1 is released!

Planetbeing and the Dev Team do it again.

See the guide here.

iPhone 2g and 3g only, no iPod yet sorry.

xpwn updated to v0.4.3

A small bug squashing update:

0.4.3
Trivial API bug fixes
Fixed a few minor memory leaks

Xpwn updated to 0.4.2

Planetbeing has been hard at it...

0.4.2 lowers memory useage to prevent ipsw failure on creation
Also fixes a root size problem.

Enjoy!

XPwn 0.4.1 - Major Update

Well 0.4.0 had a couple of bits that needed tweaking so here is v0.4.1

The major difference is iDevice now replaces dfu-util. iDevice is tailored to provide a guide to put the phone into DFU extremely simply, with a new custom logo to show when the phone is ready to be restored in iTunes.

Incorrect use of DFU was the cause of the 16xx errors in iTunes previously.

You can also resize the OS partition. I tested up to 8GB on a 16GB iPhone, so go install all the apps you want!

Also you can now specify the switch -memory to speed up IPSW creation if you have a LOT of RAM installed.

Libusb is not needed any more either...thank God.

Join us in #xpwn on irc.osx86.hu for support.

A big well done to planetbeing.

Xpwn Update - 0.4.0

Planetbeing has updated xpwn to v0.4.0.

Expect to see an ppdated guide (link on the left) with instructions for iDevice.exe as soon as I have worked out what it does! Looks like it is a dfu-util replacement...

Cydia Guide

http://www.appleiphoneapps.com/2008/07/how-to-use-cydia-a-walkthrough/

In depth - Jailbreak your 2g phone

Over a few posts Im going to take apart the commands needed to jailbreak and unlock 2g and 3g iphones, starting with jailbreaking the 2g on a LEGIT contract.

Heres the command::

ipsw OrigFirm/iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw CustomFirm/custom.ipsw -e "Phone Activation" bundles/Cydia.tar

ipsw:: ipsw is the exe file that doesa the work. If you just type "c:> ipsw" and press return you will see all the options it takes.

OrigFirm/iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw:: This tells ipsw to look in the OrigFirm folder for the iphones ORIGINAL firmware, which you downloaded. iPhone1,1_2... is for 2g phones and iPhone1,2_2... is for 3g phones.

CustomFirm/custom.ipsw:: This tells ipsw to save your custom firmware in the CustomFirm folder. You can change the name of your custom firmware. This is a good idea if you make different ones with different logos, packages etc.

-e "Phone Activation":: The -e command tells ipsw NOT to do something, in this case NOT to activate the phone because we are on a legit iPhone carrier contract.

bundles/Cydia.tar:: You can add packages to xpwn which get built in to the custom firmware you are making. The most common is Cydia, the new iPhone installer for homebrew software. They live in the bundles folder.

Running this command will build a custom firmware that will unlock your 2g phone but not activate it.

If you want to add boot and restore logos you can! Just change the command slightly::

Add
-b Logos/boot.png -r Logos/restore.png

ipsw OrigFirm/iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw CustomFirm/custom.ipsw -b Logos/boot.png -r Logos/restore.png -e "Phone Activation" bundles/Cydia.tar

Xpwn v Winpwn v Pwnage.

Got a Mac? Use Pwnage.

Got a PC? Use Xpwn or Winpwn

Which one to use? Well, I suggest you try winpwn...if it fails (16xx errors in iTunes usually) use xpwn.

Quote from #xpwn:

should've used xpwn from first place...
thanks a lot mate

There is no rivalry...I assist in #xpwn and #winpwn.

Our Guide + Tools

I have put together an Xpwn guide and pack of all files required.

http://xpwn.co.uk

It is updated daily if needed after Planetbeing's updates so it is usually just ahead of Winpwn in terms of bugfixes.

XPWN - the hidden engine behind winpwn

The iPhone Dev Team announces the availability of “XPwn”, a fast cross-platform command-line pwnage utility. XPwn includes the core functionality of the Mac PwnageTool in a flexible command-line utility for hackers, enabling you to pwn your iPhone on more platforms than ever before.

And downloads will be here...(coming soon)

Tip of the Day: Breaking Out Of The Loop

Stuck at the iPlus screen at need to start over? Use iPlus to enter Recover or DFU mode.

Just launch a terminal window in Mac or Windows and issue these commands:

On Windows
ipdo -R (for recovery)
ipdo -D (for DFU)

On a Mac, put a "./" before the command
./ipdo -R (for recovery)
./ipdo -D
 (for DFU)

Need Jailbreak/Activate Only? Check Out iLiberty!

Need SAFE Jailbreak/Activate only and don't want to wait for iPlus 2.1? George Zhu has a brand new Windows GUI tool for the iPhone. This initial version does not unlock, but it will do Jailbreak or Activate only, for those people who like to keep-it-simple. ZERO chance of ending up with a downgraded bootloader by accident (as with some other programs).

Information on iLiberty can be found at:
George Z's Blog

Download app and payload bundle from mirror site at:
http://83.244.179.135/iphone/iLiberty/iliberty_1_1_2.rar

Cheers and Thanks to George!

Rerunning iPlus

If you need to rerun iPlus - for example if you forgot to put payload.zip in the correct folder - you can safely rerun it as many times as you want.

You do not need to use -u though, and do not use installer to add apps before rerunning.

master.sh command not found errors

IGNORE THEM!

They are "just tar errors on uid changes that are not harmful". "There is one bad mkdir that will not matter too".

They will be cleaned up on the next version.

iPlus v Ziphone

People are asking for the differences between iPlus and Ziphone:

iPlus patches afc2, uses the 3.9Blank bootloader if you unlock and allows you to make custom payloads.

Ziphone empties your refrigerator and makes your dog pregnant.

UPDATE on iPlus 2.1

Currently there is NO ETA for iPlus 2.1 - basically you iPod Touch people are going to have to wait a bit longer.

The reason? Exploit is being a bitch!

More news when I have it.

iPlus 2.0 screens?

Sneak preview of iPlus 2.0!

Pic1
Pic2

Coming soon!

Oh, and 2.0 will be iPhone only, with 2.1 just behind for iPod Touch, so I have heard...

Tired of messing with command lines? Shortcut!

OK, to make iPlus a 1-click operation:

Make a command line desktop shortcut...

Command line shortcuts on the desktop? What's next, dogs and cats living together in harmony?

1. Right click on an empty space on the desktop to open the context menu
2. Select New
3. Select Shortcut with a left-click
4. In the location box type cmd /k plus the command to run iPlus

for example i typed cmd /k "C:\iPlus1.2\iPlus.bat" -u

Change the directory to point to wherever your iPlus was extracted.
Dont forget the "" in the correct places!

5. Select Next
6. Name your shortcut (iPlus is a good name)and push Finish.

To run it, stick your iPhone on the dock and click that shortcut!

The most important change is that now I know how to prevent the "Reair Needed" problem that has been report by some users. Once again with the help of some folks from the Dev Team I was able to figure out where the problem is and devise a way to fix it.

Also the following features are planned:

- PPC support
- Better payload integration
- Second pass completion infomation. No need to wait without feedback
- Minor enhancements
- Simple GUI - provided by Zuegg

So stay tuned!

TIPS from my experience... (7 16gb iPhones unlocked so far with iPlus 1.2)

1. Once you start iPlus running, walk AWAY from the pc. Make a cup of coffee and drink it. Come back and it will be done. If you sit and stare at it, you will think it has finished, or not worked.
Even when the cmd line has finished, the iPhone is still being worked on.

2. If you get an error "your phone needs repair", rerun iPlus -u. It WILL fix it. No need to restore the FW first.
